Day 32: Being Thankful for Today

It can be hard to be thankful for where we are today. We might be suffering and going through a difficult time. I know that in growing up, I often looked to the future, hoping that I would get to better days.

The problem with always looking forward is that I wasn’t taking the time to be thankful for what I had around me and for the people in my life today.

When you grow up in an alcoholic/dysfunctional family, it’s hard not to want to insulate yourself from hurt and hard times.

But if our defenses are always up, then we can’t let people in. We can’t experience love, joy, and laughter.

Today I want to be thankful for where I am and all the wonder I have in my life.

I will always have struggles and challenges, but I want to focus on the positive today.

I’m thankful for my family, friends, and for all that I have been given.

Today I want to give myself the gift of relaxation. The gift to have fun and to not work. A gift to smile at those I love and to thank them for being in my life.

If you are struggling and going through a difficult time, I am sending you some happiness and joy. I cannot take your hard times away, but I hope that you know that you are never alone.

I wish you peace, health, and happiness during the holidays (no matter what one you celebrate).
