Day 52: Name Three Good Things in Your Life

It’s easy to be negative. Too easy.

Each day when you get up, take a moment to think of three good things in your life. What are they? Name them, say them, and own them.

The negativity spiral is enticing, and the energy toward bad to worse happens fast.

I grew up in a dysfunctional/alcoholic family. To survive, I started thinking the worst possible outcome would happen, and I’d plan for how to avoid that as best I could. But the sad thing is that by always thinking the worst, I limited myself of joy and freedom.

Negativity saps joy.

But imagine when we see the positive in life and embrace it.

What are your three good things in your life?

I’m not saying that we avoid the pain, suffering, and difficulty we’re going through. That’s not how life is. The truth is that each day we have a mix of the good and the bad.

How we choose to deal with the negativity and go through life is another thing, though.

Malala Yousafzai of Pakistan was nearly killed when several men fired on her school bus back in 2012. The Taliban wanted her to suffer for keeping a diary about her life. Instead of giving up, she took her message of the importance of educating young women around the world and became the youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner at 17-years-old.

Having been shot in the head, she survived, recovered, and thrived.

I have been writing to the subscribers of my fantasy series for more than six years now and I’ve heard from some of my readers who have struggled with chronic diseases, loss of a spouse, cancer, or struggling to make ends meet after losing a job. Their stories of resilience and of positivity inspire me.

Every day we wake up and have a choice.

What are three good things are in your life?

Something definitely worth thinking about.
