Day 49: Take a Few Steps Forward Each Day Toward Your Goal
I have had some big dreams in my life. What are your dreams?
How are you going to achieve them?
If we take just a few steps forward each day, that work becomes the building block of our completed goal.
But it’s hard to think this way.
We want the instant fix, the quick answer, and it’s not easy to persevere and move forward toward our goal.
As a kid, my teachers kept telling us about the tortoise and the hare. The hare would run fast, tired out, and lose the race.
We’re not in a race with anyone but ourselves.
If you want to write a book, write a couple of hundred words a day. Want to run a 5K? Find a training plan and follow it.
Imagine what the builders of the great medieval Gothic cathedrals went through. The churches they built took hundreds of years to finish, but thousands of people completed the work.
Today you might take three steps forward and tomorrow four steps back, but the next day you' might go five steps forward.
Keep moving forward.
If you fail, try again. If you fail another time, adapt, be flexible, try a different idea or another way.
When we allow ourselves to be stuck, we’re agreeing to remain imprisoned in our situation. There’s no need to look for others to save us. Be your own hero.
But by continuing to move forward, we’re growing and will eventually achieve our goal.
One step at a time.
If you think about it, that’s what we all do.
