Day 315: Embrace Change

In listening to my morning meditation, Oprah talked about this quote from inspiration speaker Iyanla Vanzant: “There’s no greater battle in life than the battle between the parts of you that want to be healed and the parts of you that are comfortable and content being broken.”

That’s a really difficult thought to process.

If we’re honest with ourselves, is it easier to accept the parts of us that have been damaged because we’re comfortable with how we feel? Instead of being willing to change and grow, are we content with being broken?

That’s a painful line for me to write because if I reflect on my own life, I need to come to terms with my own limitations and problems.

It’s easy to blame our parents and what happened to us during our childhood for the problems we have. But will that make us happier in the long run?

What if we were to trust ourselves and take the change in embracing the damage and broken parts of ourselves?

What is important to see is that in reality we are not damaged and broken. We are whole as we are, but have allowed the past to hold us back on achieving our true potential.

For today, take time with Vanzant’s quote. What battle rages inside us? Or are we repressing how we feel and want to pretend that everything is okay.

The struggle is real in overcoming past trauma and pain. The work that we need to do might seem overwhelming at times, but I hope that you take time to reflect, relax, and choose to heal.

It’ll take time, but you are worth it
