Day 333: A Touch of Nostalgia
I’d like you to try something different today. Sit down, close your eyes, and think back to a movie, toy, game, or book that helped you through some rough times when you were a kid.
Earlier this week, a memory of my reading a magazine popped into my mind. I remember sitting in my room when I was 12 years old and reading Omni magazine. I used to read the magazine as it had some extremely creative articles about science and our future.
And after a little searching, I discovered that I could download electronic copies of the magazine as a PDF or an ebook to put on my Kindle. All I needed to do was to visit the Internet Archive and search through the books and magazines that had been stored there.
Do you remember reading a book or playing with a toy that helped you get through some difficult times as a kid?
If you can’t find the book on the Internet Archive, try searching for it on eBay.
After you find the toy or book that you used to love as a kid, take some time to remember how you felt as a kid and bring yourself back to the present.
Now ask yourself what activities do you like now as an adult. What feelings were stirred up when you revisited the toys you played with as a kid?
Take those feelings and embrace them in the present. We are never too old to have fun and to play.
As kids who grew up in alcoholic or dysfunctional families, we were often forced to give up our childhoods and needed to deal with the problems that our parents had. But there is nothing wrong in playing games, having fun, and letting yourself enjoy life.
Take time today to remember what you enjoyed as a kid, embrace that, and revel in the nostalgia.
You deserve it.
