Day 113: Protect Yourself with a Simple Visualization Technique
There are days when I’m hit with stress from all sides, and I’m weary at the end of the day. I focus on being positive, but it’s difficult to do if you’re struggling with problems, anxiety, and stress.
To overcome the negative thoughts, I wanted to share with you a simple visualization technique.
First:
Find a quiet spot to sit down and close your eyes.
Second:
Take a slow and deep breath through your nose. As you’re inhaling, image a spherical shield of light growing strong around you. The shield becomes bright with energy (whatever your favorite color is) and starts to spin clockwise. Hold your breath for a few heartbeats and slowly exhale through your mouth. Remember, the shield allows in positivity and light but blocks negativity from getting to you. Repeat this step one more time.
Third:
Again, take a slow and deep breath through your nose. This time as you inhale, imagine that the sphere of light surrounding you is spinning in a counter-clockwise motion. When you inhale as much as you can, hold your breath for a few heartbeats and exhale through your mouth. As you exhale, imagine all the negativity coming out of your body and flying past the shield and out of reach. Repeat this step one more time.
Fourth:
Take a slow breath in through your nose, and as you inhale, imagine the sphere spinning in a vertical motion head over feet. Inhale as much as you feel comfortable, hold the breath, and slowly exhale through your mouth. Repeat this step one more time.
Fifth:
On this last time, take a slow breath in through your nose, and as you inhale, imagine the sphere spinning in a feet over head motion over you. Inhale until you have had enough, hold your breath, and then slowly exhale through your mouth. Repeat this step one more time.
This visualization technique can be done when you’re a passenger in a car, on a train, lying down, or if you’re sitting comfortably in a chair. I use this exercise to help center and ground me when I’m stressed.
Print this technique out and hang it up on your fridge or by your computer monitor to help remind you to practice it when needed.
After I finish this exercise, I feel more relaxed, centered, and at peace.
Give it a try and see what you think.
