Day 127: Take Time to Breathe

Sometimes it can feel that the world is falling apart and us with it.

Stress is coming from all angles.

Deadlines, sickness, fear, worry, money problems—the list goes on and on.

When we are at our most vulnerable and afraid, take time to breathe.

Stop.

Sit in a quiet place. Take a slow and deep breath in throw your nose, hold the air in your lungs, let it fill you up inside, and then slowly exhale out your mouth.

Do this for five minutes.

Each time your thoughts wander off, re-center, and focus on breathing. The give and take of life.

We are overwhelmed and stretched to the limits, and we need to remember that it’s okay to relax, stop, and recharge our batteries. We are not machines that can go on and on without food, drink, and rest.

Rest your mind by taking the time to breathe.

When I’m stressed out and think that I don’t have time to stop and do some mindful breathing, well, that’s a sign for me that I’m in more need of a breathing mindfulness exercise than I had thought.

Breathe in through your nose, slowly, with purpose, and allow the air to fill your lungs. Hold close the air within you; let it fill your body, mind, and spirit. Then exhale again and let all the unproductive emotions that you’re carrying within you float free.

Be intentional. Take time to focus. And most importantly, ease up on yourself.

You’ll be healthier in the long run.
