Day 222: Check in with Yourself
Take time today to check in with yourself. Find a quiet spot, close your eyes, and take in a slow and deep breath through your nose, hold it, and then exhale slowly out your mouth.
While you’re breathing, ask yourself:
Are you exhausted?
Does anything hurt?
Do you feel stress?
Are you sad, worried, or depressed?
Listen to your body and pay attention to what you are thinking and feeling.
I often run around a lot with working, raising my kids, and making time to write books. I have found that when I make time each day to check in with myself that I have a better sense of what is and what isn’t working for me. When I know that there’s a problem in my life, I can adjust accordingly.
Pushing hard all the time to keep going isn’t going to make my life easier. I can only deal with the stress and pressure for so long.
When I’m hungry or thirsty, I need to take care of my body. When I’m exhausted, I need to take a break.
If I get up and stretch my legs for a few minutes and walk around, it’s good to take the time to clear my head.
I have pushed hard over the years to keep working and making certain that I take on all that I need to in order to keep things moving along. But taking on too much responsibility is not good for me. Rest and relaxation are critical.
If we turn a blind eye to what our bodies are telling us, we can become sick or hurt.
When we spend so much time and energy in making certain that others are taken care of, but we don’t listen to what we need, we’re doing a disservice to ourselves.
Stop, take a few minutes, and check-in with yourself.
What is your body telling you?
