Day 299: You Are 100% Responsible
Yesterday I listened to the Don’t Keep Your Day Job podcast with Jim Kwik as the guest. If you’re looking for some inspiration, I highly recommend that you listen to the full episode as Jim tells his life story and of the struggles he had with brain injuries.
During the episode, Jim said that “we are 100% responsible for our lives.”
That’s a powerful message that I’d like us to reflect on today. I
We are responsible.
I know that for a long time in growing up I blamed my father for a lot of the suffering that I went through. And I then blamed others along the way.
It wasn’t until I accepted responsibility for my own life that I realized that I needed to set a course in which I took care of myself.
After I turned 18, I couldn’t really count on my parents to take care of me.
I needed to take responsibility for what career I wanted to get into, how to earn money to live, how to find love, and build a family.
I couldn’t just blame what happened to me in the past on why I struggled in the present.
For the longest time, I didn’t take responsibility as it was easier to blame my problems on others.
Today, take time to accept who you are, where you want to go, and own up to it.
No one is going to make you exercise, or finish a degree, or go see a therapist, or get a physical, or spend time on building up your boundaries.
All that you need to do each day to become happier and healthier is up to you.
The good news is that you don’t need to move mountains.
For Today, you only need to take a step forward.
