Day 39: Pushing Yourself too Hard

As I write this, I’m fighting off a nasty cold. When I get sick, I get frustrated because I keep trying to push myself hard to write, read, and do work.

But you know what?

Resting would be the best thing.

But I have always pushed myself hard and held myself to a realistic standard. I’ve taken the mantle of responsibility that grew out of my childhood and ran with that.

My mom and family often told me after my father left, “you’re the man of the family now,” and the expectations weighed hard on me. I wasn’t given any rules on how to be “the man of the house,” so I interpreted that to mean that I worked hard, stayed in line with being a good kid, and was always mindful of the tough time around me.

Here is a reminder for you:

It is okay to rest. It is okay to relax and take care of yourself when you’re sick. Remember that.

And with that said, I need to do the same and rest up so that I feel better.

Peace.
