Day 338: Believe in Yourself

For today, get up, look in the mirror, and believe in yourself. Believe that you can obtain a goal that you’ve always hoped for. Believe in the fact that you are worthy of love, that you are beautiful, and that you have much to contribute to in this world.

In growing up in an alcoholic or dysfunctional household, how often were your dreams and needs ignored or denied?

And how often have you sacrificed your dreams? Have you put off what you’ve always wanted because you didn’t feel that you deserve it? Or you were afraid to try?

The psychological wounds that we carry run deep and we see the world through the distorted filter of dysfunction. Just because our parents brought us up a certain way doesn’t mean that we have to continue those behaviors and beliefs.

As a kid, I struggled with the rigid rules of my religious upbringing. But what I couldn’t ever understand is why we were told to follow Jesus’ teachings, but then the same people who taught us that didn’t do that themselves. I’d look around and wonder why no one could see the hypocrisy, but I learned early that you shouldn’t question. Keep quiet, do what you’re told, and all will be okay.

Fear and oppression are not love.

When you believe in yourself, you’re investing in your own well-being and future.

How would you feel if you tried for a goal that you’ve always had? What do you want to achieve? Who are you when you are at peace and on your own? Can you be that person around your loved ones or do you need to hide your true self?

Difficult questions, but ones that you can tackle if you believe in yourself.
