I turned the news yesterday (bad idea), and it was put. As I write this, it’ll be a snapshot in time. The Center for Disease Control has recommended that no gatherings of more than 50 people take place for the next eight weeks in the United States. Before the day was through, the number had changed to not having more than ten people gather together at one time. Coronavirus news saturated the airways.
Non-essential businesses in my state were asked to close for the next two weeks. Schools were shuttered, and people are adapting to a new reality.
My son and I both said that we feel like we’re living in a dystopian sci-fi novel.
Things are grim.
But for the moment, let’s but that aside. I woke up early this morning and wanted to get a fresh start before I started working remotely from home. Normally, when it’s winter and a light sprinkle outside, I run inside on the treadmill. Today I wanted to go out.
On the way back from my morning run, I was tired, cold, and a bit spent. I walked back up to my house and heard several birds chirping. It was still dark, but they knew that the sun would be rising soon. Although still, dark, cloudy, and the light rain had picked up, the birds knew that the sun would come.
When the world is turbulent, and life is unstable, we have a choice. We can react or act.
This morning I chose to act.
People all around the world are dealing with major disruptions in their lives. The list of what’s wrong with the world is pretty long right now, but we have a choice.
What are you going to do with your life right now?
What will help you?
I propose some silence. Take a walk outside, listen to the wind, hear the birds, get back into the quiet of nature, and hear the world around you.
When in silence, you will find calmness and peace.
When you read these words, time will have passed. We all will have moved on, but there’s a lesson here.
Please, be good to yourself.
Stop and listen to how you’re feeling, embrace the fear, love that part of yourself, and just be in the moment.
Just be.
