When the kids were little, and we were on vacation, I’d get up early, go to the beach, and see the sunrise. There’s nothing like standing on the beach, feeling the cold sand on the soles of your feet, and then feel the gentle warmth of the air around you. Often there would be lots of dew that had settled on the boardwalk and the lifeguard stand.
The sound of the ocean would crash against the beach, and little by little, there would be the gradual brightening of the sky until the sun rose over the water.
Now my kids take part in the fun experience.
Many think we’re a bit out there for getting up so early on our vacation, but I don’t mind.
How often do you get to see the sunrise with your kids?
When was the last time you went to go see a sunrise?
Maybe it’s been years or yesterday, but each day is a new and exciting experience.
Each day there is a new opportunity to embrace the day, love yourself, and to choose to make a difference in your life.
Big changes start with small decisions.
When I decided to write another book after more than ten years, I started with the first page.
We are often told that we need a special brand of product X to make us happy or to look good or to be wealthy and successful.
But what do you really need?
Maybe it’s as simple as watching the sunrise and smiling. You can make a difference in your life today if you choose to take that first small step.
I came across an article in The New York Times that touched me: “I’m Going to Die. I Might as Well Be Cheerful About It.” When I see people who have great problems to deal with, still be positive, I stop and think. It’s not that we have to be happy all the time, but I’ve learned that life can be easier when we’re positive.
So, starting today, let’s embrace the sun.
