Day 271: Don't Give Up Now

Do you want to give up? Are you tired, exhausted, and have had enough?

If we look back at the last year, I don’t even know where to begin. It’s funny because I thought that 2020 was going to be such a great year. And maybe it is for some, but for tens of millions of people, this year has brought the coronavirus pandemic, more than 56 million Americans have lost their jobs, protests in the streets, and a presidential election campaign like no other.

How many people are holding onto hope as their bills pile up and they’re desperately trying to find work?

And in the midst of all this upheaval, I’m writing about our families. How we have handled growing up in an alcoholic/dysfunctional family has (for better or for worse) brought us to this point in time. We are now at a crossroads in which we can choose to emulate the dysfunctional behavior we learned as kids or we can stand up and say, “No more.” We can choose to be free.

But what if you are going through a personally difficult time right now? What if you have been directly affected with financial problems related to the pandemic?

I wish that you will be able to find some joy and a means to get through this difficult time. I’ve never seen a time like this in my lifetime. We are in uncharted waters and have a choice: Do we give up or do we work for what we know is right?

It would be so easy to throw our hands up in the air and to give in. There are so many distractions in our lives these days: drugs, alcohol, controlling behavior, social media, the news, family or work drama—the list goes on and on. Or we can become numb and wall ourselves off to the fear, anxiety, and pain.

But what if we choose a different path? Yes, it’ll be harder, but the journey leads to one of fulfillment and love.

What we have wanted all of our lives is within our grasp.

Not ten years from now, but today.

We can embrace the moment. Embrace our suffering and problems.

Together we will get through this challenging time.

How?

Through love, commitment, and hope.

We can do this. Please don’t give up.
