Day 274: Negativity

The power of negativity is insidious. A negative thought can worm its way around our minds and paralyze us from acting.

Why is that?

The safe and familiar of what we know might be more comfortable than the unknown.

It’s easier to focus on the negative because then there’s nothing to live up to. We can’t fail or fall down.

When we expect life to be against us, and we encounter a challenge, we can sit back and say, “See, I told you so.”

Being negative is an easy way out because it allows us to cloak ourselves in armor.

We can’t be hurt if we’ve already anticipated the event and emotionally disconnected from it.

But what if we dropped the pretense, admitted our truth, and then faced the world as our true selves?

We give power to that what we believe.

If we focus on the negative, then we will continue to construct a world where we are always being put upon.

But what if we flipped things and took on the mantle of responsibility?

Our power is from within. We only grant power to those around us. Our minds and spirits are ours to control.

Often when we think back at our childhood and the problems we had with the struggles we had with either an alcoholic parent or dysfunctional behaviors within our family, we stay imprisoned in that past.

To be free is to believe we are free.

And that starts with letting go of negativity, embracing positivity, accepting who we are, and doing the work to reclaim our lives.

It all starts with a thought. One single thought: Yes, I am enough.
