Day 109: Go Toward the Light

Every time I turn on the news, visit a news website, or listen to the radio, the impending bad news of the world reaches out to grab at me. Negativity is all around us.

People are mesmerized by watching a train wreck or other horrible news taking place on another continent.

As I write this, fear of the Coronavirus is spreading across the globe. In America, some schools are closed to help stop the spread of the disease. Technology conferences have been canceled ,and I received an email yesterday that the London Book Fair had also been canceled.

Negativity and fear are all around us.

They play to our basest instincts and help us stay glued to the event.

But we can’t always live in fear. We also can’t hide away from the world.

I like to think that each of us has a spark within us that will help guide us to do good for ourselves and the world.

“Do good.”

What do I mean by that?

I believe that we are on this Earth to help each other. We can help our neighbors and our community, but first, we need to help ourselves.

If we don’t first put on our face mask during an airplane emergency, how can we help the person next to us?

Each day when I wake up, I walk toward the light.

I make active decisions that will align me with focusing on the positive in my life and on choosing to act in ways that will help those around me.

When you woke up today, what did you do?

Did you get some coffee? Read the paper? Watch the news?

What positive actions did you take to help yourself?

  • Meditate

  • Perform yoga

  • Write in a journal

  • Go for a walk

  • Read a book

  • Pray

  • Exercise

There is a whole list of activities that you can do each do that don’t take up much time. One small activity that is stacked with another can quickly build into a set of positive habits that will help ground you.

If you want to make a change in your life, starting with one small step can set off a sea change that will alter your life forever.

Take stock of what you want in life. Take time to decide what you want to change. And then take that step.

Walk toward the light.

When you fall, which you will, love yourself for that, hug yourself, and then get back up.

Keep on going.
