Are you addicted to excitement, chaos, and uncertainty? Are you so used to dysfunction that your natural response is to always be in crisis mode? Maybe you’ve gravitated to a work environment that was like that or your family life is constantly filled with problem after problem?
I remember growing up in chaos and confusion. To adapt, I did everything I could to be on hyper-alert, ready to adapt, adjust, and be flexible. But you can’t live that way all the time. Being in disaster mode is great if you’re in a disaster, but not every day.
In a Facebook group I belong, someone asked what we needed to give ourselves. I added the following response: “Time to relax and rest.”
What would happen if you took the time to sit down in a quiet room, unplug all devices, spend time alone, close your eyes, and just rest? Would your brain be running a hundred miles an hour? Would worry and anxiety be so prevalent in your mind that you couldn’t calm down?
When I take a moment to think about it, running around and being in chaos all the time is a great way to numb your thoughts and feelings. If you’re stressed and too busy, constantly on the go, maybe there is a reason why you’re allowing yourself to act this way?
But what if there was a different way?
Take time for yourself, for mindfulness, to concentrate on who you want to be, where you want to go, and to breathe.
Sure, you can keep running, and complain about how busy you always are, or you can take control, stop, peel away those things which are not worth your time, and relax.
To be calm, to focus on embracing the silence, discover what is causing you to run so much, and then to let that go, will make all the difference.
Take some time, sit down, relax, and breathe deep.
You deserve it.
