A few years back, I went to see Amanda Palmer on her tour. She had just released her The Art of Asking book and had been in the news because she had raised more than a million dollars on Kickstarter to help fund her album. If you’re not familiar with Palmer, she’s a musician who is outspoken and is open to embracing her fans.

Day 67: Finding Security
I remember a night when my mom and stepfather had a big argument. I don’t know what it was about because my brother and I were in our room getting ready for bed.
My mom came into our room and gave my brother and me a big hug. She started talking about leaving if that would make things better for all of us, and I didn’t understand the context of why she said those words. She held us tight, and we held her tighter, and my heartbeat fast.
Day 66: Compassion Toward Others (and Yourself)
If you turn on the news, or just stick your head outside a window, you’ll see and hear the great hate debate that’s raging across the world. Red vs. Blue. Black vs. White. The list goes on and on and on.
Compassion is not a popular word these days. People are either good or bad.
But I would disagree. To take a phrase from the bible, no person is “without sin.”
I have done bad things. I have done things that are good. I am human. The problem these days is that we act as though everyone needs to be as perfect as they can be.
